Hey guys, if you've clicked on this page then you are interested in charity work. If you don't want to read about this then that is totally fine but I would love it if you did. IIH UK is a charity that was set up originally as a non profit organisation to help with people who suffer from this rare condition. I have a personal connection with this charity as my mum has got this so I know the effects of it on someone. Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is a neurological condition of unknown cause defined by increased intracranial pressure (ICP) around the brain without the presence of tumour or disease.

The space around the brain is filled with water like fluid (Cerebrospinal Fluid - CSF). If, due to a variety of factors, the pressure around the brain rises then the space containing the fluid cannot expand. It is this excessively high CSF pressure that produces the symptoms of IIH.

My mum was diagnosed with this in 2005 when I was only 8 years old. I didn't fully understand about it at the time as I was only young but I knew that my mum wasn't well. At first she was told "take a few paracetamol and the headache should go." This is not what she wanted to hear, she knew something was wrong and went to a different hospital which admitted her immediately. She went through multiple tests and scans as at first they thought it was a tumour. When no tumour was present they were very confused. After 2 weeks in the hospital she was diagnosed with IIH. None of us really knew what this was but we needed to learn about it and quickly. In a way I had to become mature a lot quicker than some of my friends. This is because it was only me and my mum in the house. It was so different to see her sleeping for longer and being on so many tablets to keep the pain away. She still tried her hardest to let me live my childhood by playing games with me whenever she could.
Nine years later she is still suffering from it. She is still in a lot of pain but in nine years so much more research has been conducted into how we can prevent the illness and ultimately find a cure all thanks to IIH UK. I am not asking for money at all, I just want to raise awareness as not many people know what this condition is. I will link the charity website above so you can learn more about it and the symptoms of IIH. The more awareness we get for this, the more the government will help fund research into the painful condition.
If you got this far, then I am so thankful that you took your time to read this. There is also a merchandise link on the website if you would like to purchase any wristbands etc. I hope you go onto learn more about IIH. Have a nice day everyone

Ciao xo
